Job Description
Responsibilities: Lead and supervise the road design team, including senior engineers, engineers, and draftsmen. Allocate tasks, review progress, and ensure team members follow project timelines. Coordinate with other sections such as drainage, utilities, structures, geotechnical, and traffic. Participate in internal and external design review meetings. Oversee the preparation of road and highway detailed designs, reports, drawings, and BOQs. Review and approve horizontal and vertical alignments, cross-sections, pavement designs, and typical details. Ensure all designs comply with relevant standards (AASHTO, MOT, RDA, local municipality codes). Provide technical solutions to complex road design issues during design development. Perform quality checks on design deliverables before submission. Ensure documentation and drawings follow QA/QC procedures and project guidelines. Validate design calculations and modeling performed by the team. Track design progress and ensure submission deadlines are met. Coordinate with the Project Manager for resource planning and workload distribution. Support in preparing design schedules, man-hour estimates, and progress updates. Assist in responding to client comments and preparing revised submissions. Serve as the main technical point of contact for the client on road design matters. Present technical solutions, justifications, or modifications as required. Participate in workshops, design coordination meetings, and site technical support when needed. Oversee development of IFC drawings, tender documents, technical specifications, and design reports. Ensure proper documentation and archiving of design files according to project requirements. Team Development Mentor junior engineers and provide technical training where needed. Encourage continuous improvement and adherence to best engineering practices. Essential Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering; Master’s degree preferred. 12+ years of experience in road and highway design, preferably within a consultancy or detailed design office. Strong background in roadway geometric design, pavement design, and traffic engineering. Proficient in design software such as Civil 3D, InRoads, OpenRoads, MicroStation, and related tools. Excellent communication and leadership skills.
