Automation Engineer II

As an Automation Engineer II here at Honeywell, you will design, develop, and implement automation solutions to enhance process efficiency and reliability. Collaborate with skilled engineers and cross-functional teams to drive innovation and continuous improvement. You will report directly to our Adv Manufacturing Engineering Manager and you’ll work out of our San Luis Potosí, Mexico location on a Hybrid work schedule. The Machine Guarding & Functional Safety Specialist is responsible for the assessment, design, implementation, and validation of machine guarding and safety control systems to ensure compliance with applicable safety standards. This role supports manufacturing and industrial environments by reducing risk to personnel, improving equipment safety, and ensuring regulatory compliance through structured risk assessments, safety system design, and validation activities. Perform machine safety risk assessments and hazard analyses in accordance with ISO 13849 and applicable machinery safety standards. Define, design, and validate machine guarding solutions, including physical guarding, interlocks, light curtains, safety scanners, and emergency stop systems. Develop and implement functional safety architectures using safety PLCs and certified safety components. Support remediation plans and verify safety performance levels (PL) through testing and validation. Collaborate with engineering, maintenance, and operations teams to integrate safety solutions without impacting productivity. Provide technical training and guidance on machine guarding, safety devices, and safe work practices. Support audits, internal assessments, and continuous improvement initiatives related to machine safety. YOU MUST HAVE Bachelor’s degree in Electronics Engineering or related technical field. Strong knowledge of machine guarding principles and functional safety standards (ISO 13849). Experience configuring and validating safety devices and safety PLC systems. Ability to perform and document risk assessments, safety calculations, and validation reports. Industrial automation, control systems, and instrumentation in manufacturing or process industries. Hands-on experience with PLC and safety controller programming (e.g., Rockwell Automation platforms). Experience supporting electrical maintenance, equipment upgrades, and safety retrofits. Background in industrial consulting, safety training, and technical customer support.
